Botox Q & A

How does BOTOX work?

BOTOX is a type of botulinum toxin injectable. Upon injection, it instantly causes muscles under your skin to relax. These muscles that start working closer to the surface of your skin as you lose collagen are known for causing deep grooves and wrinkles.

BOTOX allows your skin to smooth out, instead of tensing up repeatedly with frequent muscle contractions. Results are natural, and you can keep making your typical facial expressions, so it won’t look like you’ve had work done.

When will I see results with BOTOX?

One of the most beneficial things about BOTOX is that it goes to work instantly. Most clients notice a difference in their skin’s appearance before they even leave the office after having injections.

Initially, you might experience some slight redness or swelling. Usually, these minor side effects subside within 24-48 hours, and you experience optimal results by this time.

Is BOTOX permanent?

No, although results are long-lasting. Most men and women who get BOTOX injections notice a visible improvement for at least four months. Once the benefits start wearing off, you can have the treatment repeated.

Dr. Bailey and Dr. Bentley often pair BOTOX with dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM®, to give you even better, longer-lasting results. JUVÉDERM is a hyaluronic acid that plumps your skin while helping to boost new collagen production. Not only does JUVÉDERM restore lost volume, but it can also last anywhere from 12-24 months.

Are BOTOX injections painful?

It’s normal to feel some slight stinging anytime you get an injection, but you shouldn’t be in severe pain.

The BOTOX needle is thin and causes little discomfort, but the area can be numbed before getting started to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

You should also be aware that some areas are more sensitive than others. For instance, if you’re getting BOTOX injections along the lines across your forehead, you probably won’t feel much, but if you’re getting them in the lines next to your eyes, you might be a little more sensitive.

Just remember that any stinging you do feel lasts for only a few seconds, and you’re going to love your younger-looking skin afterward.
